We tend to see supportive relationships such as those with Bethesda and their modding community, but working side by side is a very unique situation and elevates this mod almost to the level of a DLC. Its a lot higher pressure, even with mods that dont start timers until XCOM shows up. Vanilla XCOM 2 didnt feel very in-depth (not that EU/EW did, but yknow). The overhaul was so extensive that developer Firaxis has created a close development relationship with the newly named Pavonis Interactive, something not commonly found in gaming. Long War 2 is a lot more fun than WotC in my opinion.
